"Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year" opens at Gallery 1988 Melrose on Friday, March 9th (7pm-10pm) and is hosted by Weird Al! The show once again has artists depicting their favorite comedians. This year I pay tribute to the brilliant Louis CK:

I wanted to make something that reflected the more surreal qualities of the show "Louie" and the unlucky/unfortunate things that happen to or around Louis CK's TV persona. So I thought, what's more unfortunate than dropping your ice cream cone on the ground? Nothing, that's what (well, except maybe getting decapitated by a garbage truck). Also, I like melty things.
Here are a few process photos I took with my phone (I realize I've been really terrible at documenting the process of my sculptures, so next time I'll try to remember to document all the little steps in between):
And here are some more pictures of the finished piece at different angles (hey, from behind it looks like a regular ice cream cone!):
If you're in LA, stop by and check out the opening on Friday! It's sure to be a fun time.
Oh, and I didn't know there was any existing ice-cream-and-Louis-CK-related things until after I started my piece, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he made a short film in the mid-90s called "Ice Cream," as well as the following more recent video, which is endlessly hilarious to me:
