"Host"
Mixed media sculpture and wood puzzle
For this piece I was inspired by bowerbirds and cordyceps (look them up...they're both really interesting. If you've seen the BBC/Discovery Channel series "Planet Earth," you might be familiar with them). I liked the idea of a bird building and decorating a structure to be an attractive host for a potential mate, while at the same time that bird is a host to a parasitic fungus.
By the way, the bird's "nest" is a cool wood puzzle that I thought would be the perfect thing for the bird to perch on.
